Home grown Beef

Yesterday we took our freezer beef to the butcher, in 10 days we will have this years meat. Meat we raised from a calf to a 1435 lb steer. We know every drug that was given, none!   We know his health history and feel very good about him feeding the family. He was fed on pasture until we brought him into the feeding pen and barn. Where he was given grain and hay until butcher time. To some this might be hard, but to us it has been a way of life for over 50 yrs.

Here at Blackberry Brambles, the plans have been made for the new coop, you can check it out on the (cottage coop )tab across the top of my page. After the snow we had this past week I'm not sure if my garlic is ok or not. Guess I will see in a few months, I planted it last fall but it was coming up pretty good. The trees are budding and flowers are up. I did pick up a few more seeds yesterday, lots of flowers to go around my coop, and to put into the flower beds around my yard.
The moles were really bad last year, what do you do to get rid of them? They ate a lot of my bulbs, I will have to replant most of my yard. Wish the chickens ate them like they do bugs, lol.
I've been reading "Barnyard in your Backyard", This a is a great book lots of info on the raising of basic barnyard animals. Learning a lot. I'll be sharing some on here, I got it from the library but will be getting one for myself, If you know of a good book let me know, I like ones that have plans, tips on everyday life.
Thanks for your visit and have a great day.

Snow! Winter wonderland!

We had the prettiest snow this morning, I had to go out and take pictures. The clothes line was something to see, how did it form a ball around the whole small wire like that?  The one of the tire swing just made tears come to my eyes, as I was taking the picture I thought of how my little ones once played there. The sub is now peeking through and all is melting, but for awhile we had a winter wonderland !

Blueberry&Rasberry Plants

When  we started  our yard planing we wanted a yard not only pretty,  but one to help feed us. I try really hard to put things in that I know we will eat, To grow something that we wouldn't eat or enjoy is just as wasteful of our space. My goal is to add all our veggies and fruits into the landscape. So when I seen the blueberry / rashberry  bushes I couldn't just leave them in the store, they needed my yard.. lol I'll plant them out soon.
Now we will have cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and rasberries. The jelly should be plentyful along with pies and muffins. I thank God, for his goodness............

this layout also has flowers around the trees, and flowerbeds with herbs and flowers for my tea...
